The finest school of witchcraft and wizardry in the world.” – Rubeus Hagrid

This article is about the wonderful castle, Hogwarts, made famous by the Harry Potter series of books and films. I am writing about this because I have just been to the Harry Potter Warner Bros studios. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The History of Hogwarts

Hogwarts was founded by the following four witches and wizards around the 10th century:

  Person            Symbol     Object

Godric Gryffindor –  a Lion  – his Sword

Salazar Slytherin – a Snake –  his Locket

Helga Hufflepuff- a Badger – her Goblet

Rowena Ravenclaw- a Raven – her Diadem

Each of these founders has a house named after them that the students are sorted into on arrival.

Did you know?

  • Muggles do not see Hogwarts as a castle, they see it as an old ruin with a sign that that says  DANGER

Famous teachers

Albus Dumbledore – His full name is Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. ‘He is the finest headmaster that Hogwarts has ever seen.’ – (Rubeus Hagrid) and has taught for over 40 years. His wand is the Elder Wand, the most powerful wand in the world! He was a great friend of Harry Potter but (spoiler alert!) he was murdered by Severus Snape  !!!

Minerva McGonagall – She is deputy head of Hogwarts. She can transform into a cat and she teaches Transfiguration. She is head of Gryffindor house.

Severus Snape –  He is a teacher of potions; everyone knows he really wants to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts. He was always cruel to Harry, but was always favouring students from his own house, Slytherin. However, when he was (spoiler alert) dying after being bitten on the neck by Nagini (Voldemort’s snake) we find out that Snape was protecting Harry all along.

Famous students

Voldemort/Tom Riddle –The most notorious wizard of all time.Being Lord Voldemort (spoiler alert) he steals the elder wand.

Harry Potter – Incredible, fearsome and smart, Harry is the owner of the cloak  of invisibility. Being the chosen one, or the boy who lived, everyone wants to be his friend. He is the hero of our adventures.

Ron Weasley – Kind, brave and a good friend. Ron is amazing  at wizards chess and always tries his best with quidditch. He marries Hermione.

Hermione Granger – Brainy, good at spells and muggle-born, Hermione is the best witch at Hogwarts. She doesn’t like to break the rules, but loves to go on adventures with Harry and Ron.

Draco Malfoy – Mischievous, pure blood from an ancient wizarding family. Draco is a death eater and Harry’s mortal enemy. He is in Slytherin house and is one of Professor Snape’s favourite students.
