“What just happened?” whispered Thomas in a hushed voice. He couldn’t believe that they had almost become a Midnight walker!
“I don’t know but it’s not good!” replied Martha, her eyes full of panic. “If it wasn’t for your quick thinking we would both be a Midnight Walker, where did you find that torch anyway?”
“In the bottom drawer, anyway let’s not talk about that just now. First things first, lock all the windows and the front and back door!” stated Thomas bravely.
Five minutes later, they rejoined each other back up the bathroom. “Okay that should hold them off for now.”
“Clever of you to remember that they die in light that is shone upon them. How did you know that anyway?”
“I didn’t, it’s just the first thing that popped into my head!”explained Thomas.
“Me too!”blurted Martha.
“Ahh now I remember, Dad showed us that book on Midnight Walkers when we were little, he told us it as ghost stories!”gasped Thomas. “It’s called Midnight Walkers’ Revenge!”
“Ahh, but remember Dad said it was hidden in the library somewhere in this house.” explained Martha.
“But why’s a library is this house anyway?”asked Thomas.
“Remember Dad’s a Professor of History; that’s why he bought this old, Victorian house.”said Martha.
“So there’s a secret library in this house – we’ve got to find it!”said Thomas enthusiastically.
“Yes, that’s right!”agreed Martha.
So they both went to the kitchen where Martha found a spare torch to defend herself against the Midnight Walkers. Next Martha went looking in the bedroom while Thomas checked the kitchen; this house was gigantic so it could have been anywhere. Half an hour passed and yet nothing! They had nearly given up hope when Thomas thought about the waste disposal. There was a button on the side of the kitchen sink that they had always been told not to press. “I wonder…” thought Thomas. He called to Martha and told her to come.
When she arrived, he told her that he was going to press it, no matter what the consequences. He cautiously leaned forward and pressed the button…All of a sudden there was a creaking sound, then there was silence. Martha and Thomas heard the noise very clearly so realised that it must be in the same room as them. They turned around and there before them was a wooden door. It was white (the same colour as the stairs – moonlight white! ) so it blended Nervously, they both open the door and there inside was the library…
