What Lent is all about.

The purpose of Lent is the preparation for Easter through prayer. People do this in memory of Jesus Christ who is said to have fasted in the desert for 40 days. Roman Catholics fast mainly on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday (the Friday before Easter).

Lent begins in February or March depending on the date of Easter. The word Lent comes from an older English word meaning springtime. Christians give up some luxuries in order to replicate the sacrifice of Jesus’s journey into the desert. We bring happiness and joy to others sometimes people can’t give up something long enough but that’s okay as Jesus and God will always forgive us (no matter what.)
